The 2022 Utah Disaster Resilience Symposium will be held on November 10th, 4:00-7:30 PM, at the Bailey Gallery (East Entrance) of the College of Architecture and Planning building at the University of Utah. The symposium will feature:

  • Keynote lecture by Dr. Lucy Arendt,  Dr. Lucy Arendt, Professor of Business Administration at St. Norbert College, Secretary-Treasurer of EERI and the Chair of the federal Advisory Committee on Earthquake Hazards Reduction (ACEHR).  Dr. Arendt teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in organizational behavior, leadership, and strategic management. She is a member of the Academy of Management, Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI), Management Women, the Management & Organizational Behavior Teaching Society, Phi Kappa Phi, and other professional associations. Dr. Arendt has presented to audiences at the state, national, and international level on topics as diverse as organizational and community recovery and resilience in the aftermath of disasters, organizational culture and decision making, humor and health, adaptive leadership, and more. She conducts research on the antecedents and consequences of organizational and community decision-making and influence around disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. More recently, she has been contributing to the national work on functional recovery of the built environment and lifeline infrastructure, with particular focus on planning, communicating, and financing. A world traveler, Dr. Arendt has participated in and led disaster-reconnaissance research trips to New Orleans, Mexico, Nepal, and New Zealand, and she has studied the aftermath of earthquakes, flooding, hurricanes, and tornadoes throughout the United States including Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the EF-5 tornado that struck Joplin, MO in 2011.
